We got some new knives at BladeHQ today. The first is a tiny 1999 collectable Microtech Micro Mini Tactical Halo. It’s incredibly small and very cool. The second things are the new Microtech Jagdkommando colors… green and tan. We put together a review on the Jagdkommando recently, but it’s always fun to see new colors. We’re just keeping you up to date on what exciting things are happening here at BladeHQ. We’ll be doing this ever now and then… no video cutting, no editing, just a quick look at what’s happening at BladeHQ. If there’s ever something you want to see from the shop, let us know.
www.sog-knives.net Getting its name from the machine gun that is mounted on the F-15, F-16, and F-18 fighter jets, the SOG Mini Vulcan VL-02 is certainly considered heavy armament. The .125 inch thick blade is made of high quality VG-10 metal and the handle is Zytel with stainless steel liners. Mounted on the back of the knife is a kick that can be pressed to aid in opening the knife. Another way to open the knife is to use the ambidextrous thumbstuds. By releasing the arc-lock near the hinge the blade folds back into the handle.
Here’s a close up view of the new Benchmade 585 Mini-Barrage. This is a spring assisted opening knife. This is the first Axis Assist model to be made. There have been Auto-Axis, but never an assisted model. I like it, the assist is adequately strong. The overall quality and feel of the knife is very good. I would give it 4 3/4 stars out of 5. I really like the thick stainless steel liners in this knife, which are skeletonized nicely. I would like to have seen a more solid scale material, although the Valox seems tough, it still sounds a bit hollow when you tap on it with your fingernail. I would like to see a G10 or aluminum scale model in the future(or both!). How about a scale upgrade kit Benchmade! I bought this one from www.knifeworks.com Another good place is www.gpknives.com
