@chibraxial ATS-34 is Japanese 154cm(which is American) and ZDP-189 is too hard to be anythiing special, it is not great steel in my opinion.

Axis lock locks up better i think, my SOG knife doesnt really have play. but if i force it forward it wiggles a lot more than my axis lock does, again neither of them are to the point of having bad play, but if i forced them both, the arc lock moves a lot more, and i really love benchmade, but yeah ur right about the SOG arc lock knives being a lot smoother.

Basically HRC is abusevly used for marketing purposes. People automatically think that higher HRC = better, that’s just wrong

No. ATS-34 is american made 154CM, it’s a premium steel but S30V is superior. ATS-34 is “old” but they stoped used it because it showed to much inconstanticies in quality, then used the japanese version of it. Then ATS-34 comes back and some people think it’s new and the best : it is neither.
S30V, ZDP-189 are superior.
HRC doesn’t mean so much. The balance between, hardness, toughness, then the grain structure, the grain size, the wear resistance come into play much more than HRC.

I agree! I have many BMs and Spyders and none of them are as smooth and fast as the Vision. Plus it’s a “last forever” tough knife.
I have many other reviews, with more coming all the time. Check’m out.

I also have the ats34 version of this knife and i love it , i think it is one of the smoothest opening knives i own.
And just as u said the only draw back is the way it carries high which IMO is very unusual for SOG .
But for me this knife is a definate keeper , i wouldnt get rid of mine for anything.
Best review i seen so far for this knife.

Sorry, WRONG. ATS-34 is MUCH harder to tool and grind than S30V – given equally good heat treating.

ATS-34 is actually considered a step down from S30V by many people, ATS-34 is just easier to work with and takes a better polish or finish than S30. Also you can find Visions online for about $145-50

After I made this video I found some websites that list the steel as ATS-34, and some that say VG-10. Mine is ATS-34 (as you can see in the close-up), but I bought it 8 years ago. Maybe the new ones are VG-10 (not as good, IMO, but not bad).
