SOG Tech Bowie: Modern Day Operative
If you happen across an original 1960s era SOG Bowie knife and want to buy it, expect to fork over at least 00 plus. That’s because that combat knife is limited in number and had such a interesting life in combat with the Studies and Observation Group (SOG) in Vietnam. You would be better of with a knife with a good steel then, AUS 8 is not that great of a steel, its like 440B, better off getting a RAT or a Becker or something, if you really wana trust your life to it, at least get a good steel.

I keep hearing aus-8 is no better than 440. This is really depressing. I hate 440. Does anyone have a reference to this?

The whole leather washer issue may have been improved upon — now the impregnate the washers with epoxy.
Would be interesting to compare an epoxied washer with a old style washer. It may stay slim while poor Rosie puffed up.

440 what? 440A, B or C, because 440C is a pretty solid stainless steel.
Aus 8 is basically 440B. AUS 10 is like 440C, you have to understand there is a vast difference between 440A and 440C, VAST.
Check my steel comparison vid for info on 440C.
