I really like Carbon Blades better than the stainless.

How do you like the steel for edge holding?
By envirosponsible, May 1, 2010 @ 2:04 pm
@icychap I don’t. That’s why I’m leary about AUS-8. What do you think about stainless? I know I have carbon knives that have rusted on me. Nothing serious, but inconvenient.

@envirosponsible I am wholly unimpressed with most knives in 440A or AUS6. I have had mixes experiences with AUS8. I generally stay away from stainless knives because I don’t live or camp in a salty marine environment, or for long enough that corrosion is a serious problem. The superb edge-taking and -holding of non-stainless carbon steels that I have used (D2 especially) makes the extra care needed well worth it. My Benchmade Activator can split hair after whittling.
