SOG Flash II: Light Weight, Big Blade
At this weight and blade size, few knives will compare favorably against the excellent SOG Flash II. It’s an ideal larger EDC blade that deploys wicked fast, locks tight, and carries well. The Flash series also shows other makers exactly how to make a pocket clip: removable, hardened stainless steel clip the buries the knife in the pocket. The FRN handle was wisely NOT lined with stainless steel and as such is super light, strong, and surprisingly comfortable. The full flat ground AUS8 blade …

i just bought this knife now this knife has the slightest up and down play and just a little sid to to side play and when i shake it i can hear somthing rattleing it might be the spring but thease are minior problems other than that i love this knife and i have the newer model with the arc-loc oya and the deep carry is hard to get out of the pocket mabey it just needs to be broken in and i bought this knife just because of your review keep them coming

I have to disagree with you on this one Nutn. I’ve had one for years and I can’t stand it. The blade wiggles up and down, the safety is annoying, the spring is very slow now (so slow I just took it out and the safety), I don’t like the clip, and the blade will not take an edge or hold one.

I think the up/ down blade play problems that everyone is having are due to the new arc-lock. If you look at Nutn’s Flashes you can see his do not have the arc lock -he has a straight rectangular lock.

My Flash II does not lock up tight up and down, only side to side after tightining the pivot screw.

Just got the Flash 2 with the new arc lock…no up and down play…just a little bit side to side..still a fun knife to have.

A $50 dollar knife should have the pivot screw properly set for proper fit and finish with no blade movement out of the box. For the love of pete, my 2 cheap Gerbers do.

I just purchased a S.O.G. Flash II. I have to say I am disappointed. While I was expecting side to side movement (which it has), I was did not expect any up and down movement (which it also has). I was just wondering what to expect from S.O.G. in return/repair costs (it is late Friday night and I doubt anyone will be answering their phones until Monday).

Well, I read more of the comments. My Flush II… I meant Flash II has the arc lock. I will still call them on Monday to find out if they have changed their policy on up and down blade play repairs. I’ll post another reply to let all of you know what I find out.

After watching the review of the SOG Aegis, I guess the up and down wiggle is common with the arc lock style of locks, and something I will have to live with.

The pocket clip is why I bought this knife.
By sharpleable2, November 4, 2009 @ 7:01 pm
my dad has one and it is the most reliable knife because he took it into the ocean, sand, and, dropped it and it still works like new!
By crazykar3, November 8, 2009 @ 11:07 am
really?, i just got one yesterday i love it, but the pocket clip beant on me, i just unscrewed it and bent it back but its pretty good now
By sittingbull09, November 8, 2009 @ 11:53 am
That’s odd, mine seemed pretty tough.
Sounds like they can turn out some dingy knives from time to time, like a quality control issue.

well im actually 13, and am an avid sailor, and i sometimes carry this knife, ive just gotten into knives, but while i was maneuvering around on my boat i think the pocket clip got caught on something, but i just bent it back, shouldnt be too much of an issue
By sittingbull09, November 9, 2009 @ 8:39 pm
Well that’s understandable.

Hi, im 13 years old, use a knife for sailing, and use a knife all the time for utility use, and lately ive gotten used to carrying a knife, what would be a smarter carry option for me, kershaw scallion or sog flasg II?
By FASTESTGUITARHERO, November 11, 2009 @ 1:52 pm
im 13 also. i just carry a dual bladed knife. i just bought it today… a kid might need it where i live. i love my blade. there is a small one for carving and one big one for slicing cutting and protection.

Hey nutn just wanted to thank you for this knife review. I picked up a sog flash 2 a few months ago as my first edc blade and i couldn’t be happier. You review was one of the things that helped me to pick this knife keep up the great reviews.

After i watched this video like a couple weeks later i went to a local gun/knife show and found a SOG FLASH ll in good shape for 40 bucks. i love the knife and because it is so light i forget its there.
By usernametroubles, December 2, 2009 @ 11:34 am
this is a decent knife. i just got mine in 1/2 an hour ago. initial impressions are mediocre. it’s a tad bigger than i expected, but that’s a good thing (for me). the blade was a touch off center in the handle, but it was barely noticable. the main issue i have is with the lock up. it has some side to side wiggle, but i can probably fix that. i was a little miffed ot find that it has some up-down wiggle. other than that, pretty decent.
