SOG Aegis: The Everything Knife

The planets have aligned in the SOG Aegis and a nearly perfect lightweight tactical and larger sized EDC blade has been created by SOG. It is no secret that I advocate LIGHTWEIGHT, well-built, fast deploying, solid folders that use good materials. Oh yeah, I want these knives to look cool, have a deep, tip-up pocket clip, and have an affordable price. It sounds like a lot to ask for but it really isn’t. In this quest to promote these design criteria I haven’t relented and indeed my high …

$125 ouch, only paid $51 for mine at the blade shop yes for the AE-06. Awesome blade, Nutnfancy you must have some huge hands because this blade is bigger than it looks in the vids.

Within 10 hours of researching knives I had chosen the Aegis with Tanto and partial serration. 30 hours later and I’m back where I started. I had my eye on other blades in between, but now I know I was right all along, minus the Tanto and serrated edge. I’ll be picking this up within the next few hours and I’m PUMPED!

Got mine about a week and half ago. I love it. Get the black TiNi version if you can. $62 from Amazon, or the satin version from Walmart for around $50 after site to store shipping+tax. One of the best knives you can buy for its price point.. And nutnfancy is right, the safety is not needed as this blade stays put. I have no worries about it opening up in my pocket. And once you get this knife worked in, it’s deadly fast opening up. Awesome

    Couple Questions,
    -Why plain edge over serrated?
-Would tanto be a better blade shape for a purely defensive standpoint?

  • By germanink21, October 26, 2009 @ 12:52 pm

serrateds good for cuttin rope and so on tanto blades are made for enterin the flesh easier

A “Good Guy”. A person that would help a perfect stranger, that is being mugged, was involved in a traffic accident, or other bad situations.

  • By 3is, October 31, 2009 @ 2:42 pm

yes…if it was a japanese style tanto which looks more like a spear point with a good belly than the “american tanto”

and to expand, half serration on a 3″ blade is kind of a joke. if u feel the need to get a folder with serration, spyderco makes a nice one where the whole blade is serrated for actual rope cutting use. Serration can chip fairly easily as well and is harder to sharpen.

the aegis is a good EDC. I carry it about 10 times as much as my benchmade presidio ultra b/c the weight
