Microtech QD Scarab, Double Edge OTF

This particular model has an S30V DLC coated blade. The Scarab is now my favorite knife in the Microtech line. first off, nice video! really makes me want to buy one!

i would guess that the “skate tape” actually is glassfilled nylon.
M.O.D call this wingwalk material on their folders.
and i think this is the same material.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m definitely wet behind the ears in comparison to many cutlery enthusiast YouTuber’s like yourself.

But this kind of feedback is the reason this site was created. Thank you.

they call it wing walk material because on the wings of planes or top decks and outside steps on the helicopters it is a similar amterial so you dont slip when working on the helicopter in the field or duering inclamite weather very grippy

    how mcuh did it cost?

  • By apophysis7, November 17, 2009 @ 4:37 pm

Mid 400 dollar range I believe– before Microtechs price reductions.

You can get a Combat Troodon for 100 dollars off now in comparison to the first quarter of the year when they ran conservatively $479.00.

Do you know what the stab resistance is like on the knife? You know what kind of pressure you can apply to the tip before it fails?

Also what kind of pressure stops the blade opening? I had one before and it couldnt even open through tissue paper so accidently catching it on clothing when deploying failed to lock the blade out etc.

The answer is no to all questions but your last one. I wipe the blades down after playing with them for about a week and then store them indefinitely. I collect automatic knives– I use manual and dual action ones for my EDC.

Don’t judge an automatic by a paper test (not saying you are). The question should be will the blade deploy quickly and reliably when the rare situation arises that self-defense becomes necessary.

  • By apophysis7, January 1, 2010 @ 9:28 pm

If you want a stronger deployment I suggest a single action to a double one.

Most Daltons, in particular my Giant Cupid, will fire through several sheets of paper.

  • By Falandorn, January 2, 2010 @ 8:10 am

Ah I wasnt even aware you could get single action ones? I know little about them as they are banned in the UK, I only know from the ones I have picked up abroad many years ago.

Do you know if there was ever such an automatic as a ‘suicide knife’? Where the blade is strong enough to penetrate through to the heart/carotid artery from deployment? I always thought they existed but maybe it was just an urban myth.

Just looked at those Dalton automatics, is that neo-nazi imagery on the handles?

  • By apophysis7, January 2, 2010 @ 12:28 pm

Well, in many cases in the place of the swastika he’ll have the Dalton logo. Kinda flies under the PC police radar….. well at least a little more discreetly.

I personally don’t get into the politics of it all. I just think he makes really cool knives. None of my knives have controversial logos on the handle.

Not aware of this knife. Sounds like a pretty intense knife to say the least.
