Microtech Makora II

Manufactured 11/2008. Double-action OTF. Great knife– it's slender design clips discreetly inside my pocket with a snug feel. Like many Microtechs, you'll often forget you're carrying one.

Awesome, I know you’ll be pleased. I wish I could afford one of Microtech’s custom Makoras with a Damascus blade…….

    maybe one of these days.

“shink” is the noise it makes when it fires!

  • By apophysis7, June 20, 2009 @ 10:24 pm

And is that a good thing or a bad thing?

i think thats cool . now let me ask you since you own one how well does it do when you place a front paper in front of it as you deploy it

Despite some of the videos you see showing a Makora passing what is commonly referred to as “The paper test”– mine however does not. Roadsideimports shows one doing it, but if you ask any knife retailer they’ll tell you that the paper test is not a good thing to do.

One, it isn’t good for the internal mechanics. Two, if it were too powerful of a deployment you’d get seriously injured.

I think the point of an OTF is for the knife to fire quickly and consistently for all situations over time.

    dats badass.
    haha

well the paper test is kind of dumb, since microtechs have a derailing system (if it hits something while being deployed the blade will derail off the spring system). that is a safety precaution in case it fires in your pocket or you accidentally have your hand in the way. if you ram the makora into a table while deployed the blade wont come off, its a tight lock.

I have a bead blast plain edge makora wth a straight hole pattern. It is now my favorite of my collection. Microtech is awsome. Bought it from Blade ops, they are a great company.

Yeah Trevor’s a salt of the earth kinda guy. Polite, and courteous in every transaction I’ve made with BladeOps.

His brother Graham is real cool also. The best prices with no manufacturer’s “seconds”. Meaning flawed knives.

I have several dealers I do business with– but Trevor’s company is definitely in my tops.

So how are The OTF’s (like microtech Daytona) for practicality? lets say it was stabbed into wood, any damage towards the knife?

  • By apophysis7, February 10, 2010 @ 6:54 pm

stick with your SnG if your knife calls for such use.

I’m strictly a collector of OTFs, not a carrier– it’s a passion, nothing more.
