Cool knives, Where did you get the Sharpener, and how much does it cost?

  • By virtuovice, May 25, 2009 @ 8:20 pm

Thank you for spending your time on my video.
This sharpener is JiffySharp made by BUCK, but the BUCK company say that the production of this item was ended. It costed me about 20dollars here. I hope you will find it on some web site.

New proposed rules from the U S Customs will broaden the definitions of illegal knives to include all Knife’s that can be opened with one hand

which will in effect ban ALL pocket knives nationwide that can be opened with one hand

this goes before no elected officials, it is an edict from US customs

please go to AKTI to help prevent this

I really love the Randall. Its lasted well. Is it the Carbon Steel? or is it Stainless Steel?

  • By virtuovice, August 3, 2009 @ 5:14 pm

It is carbon steel version. It should have been mirror finished at first. But gradually it has gone something like stone washed, which is because of meat acid I guess. Thanks.

  • By knivesandstuff, August 3, 2009 @ 5:56 pm

You have looked after it well. I think that the carbon steel is much nicer. I am a big fan of carbon steel, as long as its well looked after.

Q: Do you use your small buck sharpener on everything? or do you use japanese stones as well?

  • By virtuovice, August 4, 2009 @ 7:12 am

I use Buck handy sharpner only on hunting knives practically, because the deer skin is very tough and I skin deers very often, 30 in 4 months. Handy sharpner spares time, not mekes knives razor sharp though. In my opinion, for skinning job, razor sharpness is not needed. On fishing knife and utility knife, I use Spyderco sharpmaker very recently, which works very well to razor sharp. I use honing stones on Japanese hatchet and Ontario AFSKnife, which don’t need razor sharpness. Thanks.

Are these the only knives that you use for skinning? I just bought a Cold Steel Roach Belly knife because I find it versatile and I heard it works great for skinning and it’s cheap. Are you familliar with this knife? If so would you ever do a review of it?

I sure hate to see you use that “scrape” type sharpener on that Randall made knife. But, it has served you well and nobody has to like it but you. Nice review. Very good english. thank you.

Thank you for your comment. After getting the Spyderco sharpmaker, I never use the linear sharpener.
    I was crazy enough.
