i have a sad story to tell about teh axis lock: i was at my friends house one day and he had a bunch of 2×4′s laying around so i decided to baton through them, well the axis lock failed, but it still worked. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WHEN PEOPLE SAY THAT THE AXIS LOCK IS THE STRONGET LOCK. If somebody reads this that had the same thing happen to them, then please reply

ive heard it can hold up to a coupel hundred pounds and i have a grip. myself and i highly doubt that your lock failed
By OTEP1234567891011, November 30, 2008 @ 3:08 pm
well, you can doubt all you want, but mine failed, nothing to argue about that. i thought the same thing about the axislock, until if failed.

if you use somthing like a piece of white paper or your fingers which are one solid color behind the object, you could probably get your camera to focus.
By halomaniac94, December 17, 2008 @ 5:17 pm
you must have been doing somthing terribly wrong while batoning dude.

perhaps i got a bad benchmade?
By soul111smasher, January 10, 2009 @ 6:01 pm
perhaps you don’t have any common sense at all? perhaps you lack enough brain cells to realise you should NEVER baton with ANY folder. OTEP1234, batoning a serious abuse of a folder, and is a job for a fixed blade.

dude, don’t be a butthole. i was doing it FOR a stress test.i had a gerber lmf2 right beside me, i could’ve used that if i was really batonning though something.

Well you said in your origional comment, you were sad, which means you didn’t expect it to happen. Also you said “perhaps i got a bad benchmade?”, which again, indicates you did not expect it to fail. How could you not expect it to fail?? I don’t care if you were testing it, of course it will fail, it is far beyond what a reasonable person would expect of a folder.
By OTEP1234567891011, January 11, 2009 @ 7:35 am
Um, no it’s not beyond what a reasonable person would expect of a folder.I was sad. I DIDN’T expect it to fail, as I have heard the the axis lock was one of the strongest locks out there. And a good folder CAN withstand being batonned. Watch Nutnfancy’s video where he is batonning through a large sized stick with the RAT-1.
Guess what happened….. nothing. Argument over. If you want to argue, message me. We are disrespecting cutlerylover’s comments page.

Cutlerylover, OTEP is right, sorry for making such a mess of the comments, please feel free to delete them. I will not message you, OTEP, as we will clearly not agree, we should just settle on the fact we have different opinions on what is reasonable for a folder.

This has to be the ultimate video on how the Axis Lock works. Superb demo by cutlerylover. Axis lock was patented 10 years ago (1998). When will it become generics? 2018?

now does the sog arc lock the same thing or is it different?
By mallardhead, February 15, 2009 @ 9:57 am
the jeweler’s loop was great!
By mallardhead, February 15, 2009 @ 9:58 am
Make a stand for the loop to free up your hand???

I’m not sure how many more videos you plan to make but as for a solution to your loupe problem, I’d check out the Wimberly ‘Plamp’ articulating arm & clamp. I’m a photographer and I use one all the time. It’d let you position a close-up lens in front of your camera and free up your hands.
Bravo on the Axis explanation! I am ready to take my 721SBT apart for cleaning and this was very helpful. Thanks!

any drawbacks on the axis lock? it’s quite an ingenious design really but is there any drawbacks?
By DoritoMonk, July 23, 2009 @ 8:39 am
Anyone know how to adjust the Axis lock to compensate for up and down bladeplay?
I just bought a 520 Presidio that has some barely-noticeable up and down play, but I have no idea how to tighten that up. Adjusting the pivot hasn’t worked.
Any help would be great!

i would say the omega spring is the weakest link.
i love to flick my knife open and close and its a joy to play with the axis lock however after you play with it too much the spring will loosen up. sometimes unevenly like mine one side looser than the other. so mine axis lock not rattles in any position if i wiggle the lock.
By MrSlampa, October 12, 2009 @ 7:24 am
That sucks, cause there is nothing you can do to fix up/down bladeplay unless you wanna ADD something to keep it from wiggling…

Awesome video, how does the Benchmade Axis compare with the SOG Arc-lock? Do you prefer one over the other?
