i was hesitant to buy this knife. I am glad i did. it is sharp out of the box, as all Gerber knives are. feels good in your hands and i have very large hands, so this is a bonus for anyone with large hands. i like the straight edge, it has been difficult to find a nice fulltang blade w/out serrations. nice knife.

Have you ever asked yourself “what would be a good EDC knife and survival knife and a knife that will everything I need it to do”? To be honest I have many times and I find that this blade right here answers the call. I have split many pieces of wood with this baby and it goes through them like a charm. Granted the blade is only 3. 5 inches but it gets a lot done. The best test for a blade is to take it outside and do some extensive test on it and that’s what I did. I split wood with it by beating near tip or on tip with a wood baton and the blade still held up and I was going through some really tough wood as you often encounter when going out in the woods. Another test I did was chopping away at my wood so I could split it and again the blade came through with flying colors. Then once when I got done getting all my wood split and ready to burn, I realized I did not have a shovel so what I did was I dug a hole with the blade for the fire pit and again the blade did awesome. Then once when I got the fire going I needed more wood so I got more chopped it then split it and it was still charging very hard after I abused it by digging in the cold ground. Oh yeah by the way the temperature was about 30 or 40 degrees and by the time it hit full on night it was about 25 30 degrees so that is very good testing conditions for a blade.
Currently this is my EDC blade right now because I trust this blade with my life because it has everything I want in a good survival knife. And what still continues to amaze me is how light weight the blade is (6. 1 oz). Also how compact the blade is too (8. 56). Also I like the tang in the blade too because it’s a full tang and a blade that has a full tang is going to last so much longer. Here is an example the KA-Bar Marine fighting knife. It does not have a full tang so I would have to say that this blade is stronger than the KA-Bar because that blade does not have a full tang. If you don’t want to carry this blade just keep it in your vehicle and maybe you just might need it. Also here is a tip, put electrical tape around the handle because when you are chopping or splitting wood the energy transfers to your hand and it hurts. Reason being is that the tang is so good that it sticks out about 4 millimeters but I would rather have that than a crappy tang. Also put electrical tape around the thumb break but not on the thumb break just on the nylon and it makes it easier to gain access to the blade and putting it away.
The sheath they give you is made out of nylon denier cordura and that is the strongest fabric you can basically get. Also in the sheath they give you a non removable plastic insert that way every time you place the blade in it won’t mess up the nylon. The sheath is also able to go through a belt but sadly is not MOLLE compatible. Thanks for reading I know I did not cover everything but I did not want to make it longer than it already is. They also make a folding version, but i have not used that one yet. Maybe Gerber would send it to me and i could test it.

a great knife!!!! it has a great weight and a nice balance. very sharp and stays that way for a long time. very reliable and has a durable sheath too. would recommend it fr any outdoorsman as a utility knife.

I bought this knife to use while hunting or camping. I like the size and general design of this knife. It has a very solid feel. I’m just not happy with the edge it has from the factory. I guess Buck has spoiled me with their out of box sharpness. Would have given this knife a solid five stars had it not needed sharpening right out of the package. I just don’t like the idea of having to sharpen a brand new knife.
