For the guys here who think there is something wrong with their axis lock because it doesnt slide all the way foward, your worries are unfounded, The lock is actually operating as designed..If you examine the lock closely as to how it works you would see that the blade ramp is sloped.. As the lock wears the axis pin will ride further up the ramp. The lock would actually have up and down play as it wore in if the pin slid all the way foward.. IMO, Ti framelocks and Axis locks are the way to go
i know you probably go through (buy, sell, trade) a lot of different knives, and i enjoy watching your reviews, but i was curious, from your personal experience, what knives you’ve kept around for a while because you liked them so much. hope to hear your opinion.
funny you ask this on this video. this knife (rukus) is on of the knves i’v kept. i also kept my milli and my clb designed knives. have another burke on the way and would love to have another hd-7.
no, i sold it. i didn’t like “using” a $550 knife.
some of the knives i still own and will more than likely never sell:
Rukus
Emerson HD-12
Jim Burke Rockstar
Ranger RD-9
All of my CLB designs
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Waved Endura
Dave Farmer’s
And some random customs, nothing major
Becvause I have several benchmade knives (710, 913s, 905s (elishewitz mini stryker), 635,…) and with them you have: either a totally “free” blade and blade play, or no blade play and a blade that is not going to freely “fall” like it does in this video..depends on how tight the screw is.
Hell, you can even SEE in the video there is blade play when he jiggles it…
I love BM but I’m not a fanboy, so, I won’t lie.
I see where you are coming from and I agree his Rukus seemed VERY smooth probably too smooth. My Rukus is smooth and has no blade play but it doesn’t flop around nearly as easily has his does.
would a first production run knife be more valuable than another knife of the same kind? i have a first production run Nitrous Stryker, also a Benchmade, number 982/1000 in very good condition. do u think its worth alot?
In my experience some of the Axis knives are smoother than the other. With my 710, if it flips as easily as the one in this video it would have a lot of bladeplay. On my 943, it can come close to the video with no play. I’ve never owned the rukus so it may be different.
I have one too. mine is the 610SBK. It has bladeplay, BUT it IS super smooth action due to the use of phospor bronze washers this knife uses, just like Cris Reeve Sebenzas. The only knives I have had with NO bladeplay are/were the dozen plus Sebenzas I have handled.
Actually I took the knife completely apart because almost ever screw was loose, there are 14 screws counting the three spacers screws under the G-10 16 screws if you include the thumb studs. I put blue thread locker on all the screws and 24 hours later, it locks up like a vault no side to side play or up and down plat at all, like a folding fixed blade, very happy with this knife now.

I was thinkin about getting one of those but it kinda look like a fatty though, is slim at all? as thick as a deck of cards maybe?
By coletrane811, September 30, 2008 @ 4:50 am
that’s about right. it’s not slim, but it carries very well in my opinion.
