Benchmade Dejavoo 740: Semi-superb Tactical
Initially I was quite enthralled with the Dejavoo 740 by Benchmade. And still it remains an excellent folding tactical knife with many positive features like: superb flat ground S30V steel blade, lightning fast deployment, titanium drilled-out liners, excellent fit and finish throughout, solid lockup, bronze bushings, handsome looks, ergonomic handle, and a good clip. But it does have several significant downsides you need to be made aware of like: possibly a weak liner lock, NO blade …

Just curious, if you dislike the “no detent” – which it obviously does have – why don’t you just tighten the pivot a bit? I don’t think there’s ANY knife in the liner-lock/frame-lock variety where the action isn’t depend on the balance of tension between the pivot screw and the liner/framelock itself.

how much do they cost?
By TheStyxWolf, January 3, 2009 @ 9:19 pm
how it flicks out so easily is probably a very big minus on this, thats pretty much one of the only minuses i would care about
By mluers82, January 4, 2009 @ 9:46 pm
I think mine was close to a hundred but you might be able to get one cheaper

I have one of these and I haven’t found retention to be a problem.

I was so dead set on buying one of these, but that spydie hole not being lined up is a SERIOUS deal-killer for me. No way will I buy it now. Dang. Nothing compares to my AFCK 806 D2 plain edge, and I don’t think anything ever will, tactical, gimping, quick flick AND retracts, etc.

I love this knife, the weight in relation to it’s size is impressive, I would call this elegant tactical, really a beautiful, well built knife. I actually prefer that it’s not checkered, it looks better and less likely to cause irritation hot spots from long term use.

love the knife but dont own one. keep up the great vids

It is a fast deploying blade that’s for sure but I like some retention.
By nutnfancy, March 25, 2009 @ 8:02 am
senoB: “Why don’t you just tighten the pivot a bit?” Doesn’t work and it ruins the fast deployment of the blade without improving in-handle retention. Strange you’d suggest it because this outcome is due to the very reasons you note.

Is there a model for a lefthanded person?
By dleebc, April 22, 2009 @ 12:21 pm
the liner, although it is titanium, seems very flimsy and that is the biggest con in my honest opinion.

Nice review.
All of your critiques would lead me to believe that the dejavoo is NOT a “tactical” knife.
1. no jimping on the ramp
2. smooth G10
3. Polished blade
4. deep pocket clip, tip down carry only
5. no detent/ easily opened
6. blade hole/ handle offset.
Seems more of a large edc or gentlemans knife, and not a tactical knife. When catagorized this way many of the issues seem to make sense.

I own this knife and have carried it every day for over a year. It clearly does have a closed detent, and I’ve never had any trouble with it opening. I’ve been VERY pleased with it.
By boonie1994, May 11, 2009 @ 2:52 pm
how is this tactical?? just because its large doesn’t make it tactical. its a large edc knife.

Does flicking the blade out, on a manual opening folder, damage or loosen the stop pin? Resulting in a loose lock-up over time? I have heard and read this in places.
By ConspicuouslyAbsent, May 18, 2009 @ 7:05 pm
deployment hole looks obscured for left handers, benchmade should have a cutaway here on the left hand side as they do the right
By kthekid, May 19, 2009 @ 6:25 pm
You know that’s a weapon? I can’t say that your vids are bad they’re actually great! But why not have a fishing knife? What is this applied to? Do you have them for extreme things like Bear Grylls? I mean defense from a snake? If your not a lax guy then are you in a unit?

Its nice to carry a knife if your walking by your self at night and some goons try to stick you up
By italia300, June 1, 2009 @ 6:10 am
I too have this knife.. Wouldnt call it a tactical but it absolutely handles all tasks I need to handle.. I love it! fit in the hand is perrrfect!! Not to mention this design is, as Nutnfancy says, designed by a custom maker and was built to thos specs.. prolly not designed for extreme tactical use.. its identical to Bobs design.. and to critique bobs design is kinna harsh.. IMO… Love your vids tho Nutn!!

After buying the knife, I also noticed the lack of alignment with the deployment hole. After using the knife a little I believe that this is on purpose. As made, your thumb will be placed higher on the blade and happens to line up really nice once the blade is open about 45 degrees. if you place your thumb lower in the hole, you may fillet your thumb.
By kirakishikatakinou, June 19, 2009 @ 10:20 pm
What makes you think this is a tactical knife? It’s in the blue class, black is tactical. You can hear the detent popping out of the blade every time you open it.
By omfg191, July 17, 2009 @ 7:59 pm
Just because the black class is called “tactical” doesn’t mean that all black class knifes are “tactical”. They class the knifes by their quality and price, not usage.

i love your videos nutnfancy keep them coming

This is just ridiculous. First he tells us that he thinks it’s a ‘tactical knife’
Then he’s telling us that it has to have jimping for thrust attacks. How many people that buy this knife do you think will ever use it for thrust attacks?
Just because you think it’s a ‘tactical knife’ that doesn’t mean it is.
By the way i don’t like this knife at all.
