Benchmade CSKII: Not Recommended for Woods Use

Sometimes a smaller survival/combat fixed blade is all that will fit into your kit. This CSK II knife weighs out at very light 12.6 oz total weight while still providing a 6″ 1095 steel blade that can perform survival tasks (with some limitations). This blackened 3/16″ thick blade should slice well and helps keep the blade light. But it probably won’t be the best heavy duty wood splitter… it lacks the width and blade length. The lighter weight blade is fast and light in hand and would be …

you forgot to say that you need a super hevy milion ton crain for climbing trees, and a tzar bomb to light a fire. bigger is better till some point. optimum sizee is 20-25 cm blade, that is about 10-13 inches, 5/6mm thick. handle is the staff of choise. for steel i recomend 1095/pure nickel damascus, or D2. D2 is one tough motherfucker, if you cant get the damascus. i cant explane how the blade should luke like, but it has to alow you hevy choping, and precision works. sharp point, guard.

Wields it like an axe? No, he wields it like a big knife which it is, which should be able to hack off limbs with no issues at all. In the case of the CSCII, you don’t get what you pay for, which is obviously illustrated by the Dec 2008 video. Junk, garbage, chipped blade at 18 deg F. I would never trust my life to a blade that breaks apart with light use. Even if he was hammering on the blade with a log to split wood I wouldn’t call that abuse.

isnt this the knife you chipped cuttin that tree

  • By MichiganRugby, June 10, 2009 @ 5:01 pm

Interestingly, the tree had been felled before any knives show up on video. Observe the base of the tree exhibits a clean-cut atypical of any survival knife. Rigged demo, apparently but not surprisingly. REMFs shun real work whenever possible.

would this be a good dive knife? its sexy but i kinda want the nimravus

  • By SrJoben, June 20, 2009 @ 10:11 am

Nuttinfancy oftern carries a folding saw, a Sawvivor IIRC. He has shown it in several videos.

It’s light and much more energy efficient for downing a tree than any knife, and of course would produce a clean cut.

Sorry, your conspiracy theory is half baked.

  • By Bohica173, June 28, 2009 @ 9:40 pm

It wasn’t necessarily designed to be a dive knife, but Benchmade actually does have one; the Model 100SH20 River/Dive.

thanks man ill look into that blade

  • By ticosfromctowncr, July 11, 2009 @ 4:03 pm

    NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
That shits gonna rust like you wouldn’t imagine!

  • By ticosfromctowncr, July 11, 2009 @ 4:10 pm

Spyderco makes several dive knives in H1 steel which will NOT rust. I recommend them over the benchmade dive because H1 is more corrosion resistant than X15 T.N.

  • By ticosfromctowncr, July 11, 2009 @ 4:12 pm

SrJoben is correct. Nutnfancy was just taking the branches off the tree.

this knife is a piece of crap, dont kid yourself.

  • By gatesofpearl, August 13, 2009 @ 10:02 am

The handle is Santoprene, not Kraton. It’s a little firmer than the Kraton that Cold Steel uses.

  • By Hermann1792, August 24, 2009 @ 2:59 pm

it’s a good knife. low end black class. the tip is a little weak (mine snapped) so be wary of that, and i would not use it as a dive knife. find a stainless blade.

  • By gatesofpearl, August 26, 2009 @ 7:36 am

Does the grip get scuffed up easily? I assume that scuffs could be buffed out with Flitz paste.

  • By Hermann1792, August 26, 2009 @ 3:22 pm

it probably could. mine has not, but i am sure that it would if subjected to heavy trauma or rough surfaces.

does spyderco make any fixed blades? if so, i’d like to see a review on a couple please

  • By heiheit, September 2, 2009 @ 1:05 pm

Yes, take a look at their website. They make some absolutely top notch fixed blades.

  • By john1112112, September 2, 2009 @ 7:19 pm

    k, cool, i will

  • By REQUIEM365, September 8, 2009 @ 1:14 pm

Hey man I love you reviews, can you try to review the Benchmade 9052 Tanto???

  • By drakos365, September 10, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

I thought this was that knife.

Watched Nutn’s video’s where he built the shelter, and this blade chipped twice. Big chips, while he was trying to hack through some small twig limbs. Acted more like stainless than 1095 steel.

  • By Guyisaritelegend, September 18, 2009 @ 3:23 pm

Acted like swiss army steel. But nutn really is a “hardcore” guy, like with the pocket bushman, he did what coldsteel said it could do, but never exepcted anyone to acctually do.

  • By Oxstayne, October 28, 2009 @ 8:07 pm

OMG, thats first vid ive seen him say “subscribe.” on a vid :O

  • By ColdSteelcollecter, November 14, 2009 @ 1:39 pm

yeah they treat everything too hard, this should be 5 points softer. no chromium means higher edge holding so you can be softer for toughness. i just saw that video…i wont own a benchmade fixed blade for chopping. hunting ect. yes but…not for abuse.
