Benchmade 940 Review… um… kinda.
Well… these knife reviews have gotten like 10 TIMES the views that my music vids have, so I’m just gonna press on. WTF. This one was pretty fun w/ the Funkadelic in the background. I’m not sure how useful this vid is, but I posted it anyway! I’ve been putting my knife reviews under “education” but I think this one is not too much as such… I put it under entertainment. Let me know what you think about that. I’d be happy to answer any questions anyone has. THANKS for watchin’!!!

Ouch! I also am in Canada, but I paid $99.99 (CND) for this knife today. New but no box or papers, and a few tiny paint scuffs/chips (although I’m hesitant to even call them that) from nimrods not paying it the respect it deserves on display. I had no idea I got such bargain! PM me if you want 411 on the store.

theres a video on here somewhere of a guy putting the axis lock to the test, stabs the knife in mud and gets all kinda junk in the lock, and still works. Its proven that it holds up

How did you get a black handle with the satin reverse tanto blade? All I see are the green handles in that style.
By aggelos123, April 3, 2009 @ 8:07 am

You mention the size of the locking spring, have you had any problems with it yet?
By soul111smasher, April 30, 2009 @ 5:30 am

what was the name of the swamp rat knife you traded for in the beginning of the video?
By iAMboognish, May 11, 2009 @ 3:11 pm
It was the Swamp Rat “Swamp Rat”… I would say that it was the best piece of steel I’ve ever owned as far as edge retention (=> S90V) and sharpen-ability… but I do like folders.

Hey dude, I like your reviews and am a subscriber. They are all very good. I am also a huge pit bull fan and owner. They are very good dogs, very people friendly. Please don’t single them out, they need people’s support more than any other breed. Thank you.

why i see in a knive-review more your face than the knive?
By SaLiOaKz, June 7, 2009 @ 11:50 pm
I’m diggin that combo.

whats better VG-10 or S30V?
By iAMboognish, July 2, 2009 @ 3:15 pm
I definitely prefer S30V… VG10 is nice, but in my experience it does not hold an edge as long as S30V… of course it requires more maintainance…
By knifefreak1995, July 16, 2009 @ 7:55 pm
cool

At 9:30 you call it a 943, your title is Benchmade 940 review. Looks like your the knife has black handle with modified tanto blade. The 943 is black but not available with a tanto blade. The 940 is a mod. tanto but only available in green.
Can you clarify?
By StarFlame33, August 11, 2009 @ 9:32 pm
S30V holds its edge longer (hard top sharpen), but VG-10 just comes short of S30V, however easier to sharpen.
Also from my experience, they both can get that “scary sharp” edge feel.
But it really depends on what you’re using it for, I find S30V tents to be pricier, so my main knife is VG-10 from spyderco cause it easiler to maintain. My current favorite knife (sebenza) holds a S30V blade – but I only use it for lighty, I don’t want to hurt my baby.

I know what you mean about idiots and their huge off leash dogs. You may know that he’s friendly but I don’t and when it comes bounding over to me I’m pulling my knife just in case. And don’t say “Oh he’s cool, he just wants to play.” Yeah well I don’t. Put your damn dog on a leash.

Heh, nice relaxed review, as always. 5*
FWIW I’ve done drills with attack dogs in the military and those litte 4wd-shit-machines earned my respect. Many people I know harbour misconceptions about their right to act and their actual ability to do so i.e. just because it’s “up in your face” doesn’t make it a good idea to reach a weapon and scream “Hakkaa päälle Pohjan poika!” or whatever your battlecry is. Just throwing that out there…

I’m glad that this knife sheds some light on qualities of this knife other people don’t talk about. It helped. And always appreciate a Carlin reference.
By jshootr, January 13, 2010 @ 7:53 am
Good review as always. Keep talking about the practical attributes of these knives. FWIW, this if this is a black handle reverse tanto like it looks like, it’s a 942 not a 940 or 943. Same as the green 940 but with black handles. The good news is that it’s been discontinued so is worth more than the 940 still in production. I know because I’ve been searching for the 942 and they’re a pain to find so good score.
