Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage
Here is a video on my Benchmade Mini Barrage. I have carried the Mini Barrage for over a month now and it is a great knife. Benchmade has come out once again with another great knife that will preform perfectly every time. It has Benchmades Axis lock that is now assisted. I really like this feature although many people have already started to express their dislike of the added feature. If you are looking for an EDC knife, work knife, utility blade or just an all around good reliable knife check out the Mini Barrage from Benchmade. Enjoy.

Good summary. I was able to pick up a 580 already.

Awesome! Do you like it?
By CreativeOutletHobbie, April 21, 2009 @ 7:45 am
Yeah I like the 580 a little better than the 585. It feels more solid. Both are great.

I posted a video response but I just wanted to let everyone know that this knife is actually extremely easy to close with one hand. Just pull the axis lock down and use your index finger to close the knife. Its shown in my video.
Thanks for the review – your not the only one how did not think it could be closed with one hand BTW.

Yes the Barrage can be closed with one hand but it is not the same as the other BM Axis locks. You can use the technique that you demonstrate in your video or by using you body to close it which is perfectly safe if you practice.

I’m sure it can be either safe or unsafe to close the knife using your body depending on the situation, although that was not really my point. In your video you said “you do have to use your other hand” – I just wanted to let people know that you could in fact use one hand to close the knife. Thanks for the reply!

Just got the full-size version black blade, will get Mini soon. Notice lack of adjustable pivot screw??? Damn BM.
By edgedweapon88, June 19, 2009 @ 12:41 am
Yes that was a problem. The pivot came loose after some use and I could not find a sweet spot with the pivot. I bought some loctite but that did not work either. I still have some blade play in mine.

I read on the benchmade forum that you CAN adjust the pivot screw. in order to do so you’ll have to remove the left scale to reveal the pivot screw head.
I searched high and low to make sure there was a pivot adjustment just before putting an order in for this beauty.
someone should post a video of a dismantled mini barrage…. hin-ta-ty-hint-hint!
By edgedweapon88, July 8, 2009 @ 12:16 pm
Yes if you remove the left scale the pivot screw is right there. I found that after I adjusted the pivot screw and applied loctite it still had blade play. I might make a video on it regardless just to show where the pivot is.

My Mini Barrage Axis Assist mechanism broke after four months. Can barely open the knife. Sending it back.
By edgedweapon88, July 9, 2009 @ 12:32 am
Wow that sucks.
By neurad1, July 9, 2009 @ 5:09 am
Yeah. Pain in the bollocks. Have to box it back up, print out copies of my receipt and a return form and fill them out, ship it back prepaid and insured, and WAIT. Not happy.
However, I do love my Benchmade Osborn 943 …simpler mechanism, and beautiful knife.
By edgedweapon88, July 9, 2009 @ 7:33 pm
That really sucks. I hope it all works out.

my fully broken in mini grip can open just as fast as the assist axis lock…. less things to break too
